Modern Times Presents 'A Bloom Inwards Pocket' Yesteryear Stacey Rees

Modern Times is delighted to acquaint their instant solo exhibition amongst Melbourne creative mortal Stacey Rees, A Flower inward the Pocket. A novel regain for me, Stacey held her showtime solo demo All Your Gold at Modern Times inward 2018. The sell-out demo was widely celebrated together with was featured inward Vogue Living. I experience that Stacey's novel serial volition i time over again attain a chord for many because it references her fascination amongst the lack of depth inward our social media obsessed society, together with the type of imagery together with messaging that saturates our word feeds each day. Stacey believes the filters used on social media strip away our human characteristics together with brand us to a greater extent than hollow, somehow emptier. Layered together with expressive, the serial of twenty paintings depicts the woman mortal shape inward diverse poses of stillness together with reflection, to to a greater extent than forrad together with powerful stances. Hauntingly beautiful, the adult woman inward each slice appears amongst a visage partly devoid of features, truncated limbs together with semi-sculpted forms. Filled blocks of color together with obvious brush strokes or drip marks characterise each stunning work.

“Through this series, I desire to enquire the question; Is this what we’ve become? Just an image; i layer, amongst no depth, personality or history.

“And I desire to sympathize the effects of this endless scrolling on social media,” Stacey continues. “We either similar or dislike an image, or nosotros maintain on scrolling by, most probable to live on forgotten.

“Compared to my previous work, I’ve toned downwards the colours inward this series. By lessening the focus on colour, it has allowed me to focus to a greater extent than on texture, giving the pieces layers together with inward plough creating a deeper floor behind each painting.”
